Session Title: Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) tour and talk

Join fellow Treasury & Finance professionals for our first live event in over a year. We will tour and hear a great presentation from the Education Director Brian Dredla. Brian will present a business overview of MIM, walking the group through our origin story, our core business, our data-driven approach to the guest experience (including lean and Six Sigma), and challenges in the future. Brian will talk to Six Sigma as a case study, as all industries can benefit from waste reduction, process improvement, etc. Financial processes and workflows may benefit from the same analytical approach.

Speaker: Brian P. Dredla

Director of Education and Public Programs

Senior Management

Brian Dredla earned a bachelor of arts degree in biology from the University of Rochester in New York and a bachelor of music degree with highest honors in clarinet performance from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He also holds a master of music degree in clarinet performance and literature from the University of Rochester’s Eastman School of Music. While a graduate student at Eastman, Dredla participated in the Catherine Filene Shouse Arts Leadership Program, a certificate program designed to teach musicians the entrepreneurial skills and knowledge needed to become leaders in today’s ever-changing arts environment.

As a clarinetist, Dredla has played with numerous professional and festival orchestras. He performed for two seasons with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the training orchestra of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. In Chicago, Dredla also taught privately and participated regularly in music outreach programs for underserved communities. He is currently principal clarinet of the West Valley Symphony in Surprise, Arizona.

Dredla came to MIM in 2008 and worked for seven years as part of the curatorial and collections teams, most recently as manager of collections. He is now director of education and public programs, overseeing field trips and tours, educational classes and programming, and signature events. He is a certified Six Sigma Green Belt and a member of MIM’s core Six Sigma team.
